Community arts discussion series enjoys makeover

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arts Café, formerly ASU to You, has a new name, new
location and new time heading into the 2006 series season.

The free series, which joins community members with faculty and staff
from the Katherine K. Herberger College of Fine Arts for a morning of
dialogue about art issues ranging from music therapy and autism to dance
and human rights, will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on consecutive
Wednesdays from Feb. 1 through March 8 in the Public Library Program
Room, 3500 S. Rural Road.

The series kicks off with Barbara Crowe, Professor of Music and Director
of Music Therapy at Arizona State University, discussing Music Therapy,
Autism & ADD on Feb. 1.

Crowe has been Music Therapy Area Coordinator at ASU since 1981. She has
worked as a clinical music therapist with adolescents with emotional
disturbance and those with mental retardation. She also is experienced
in working with special needs children, especially those with autism and
learning disabilities and with older adults with Alzheimer's disease.

March 1 - When the Lights go Down...Is the Performance Over
Moderator: Kathryn Krzys, archivist, University Libraries

March 8 - Engaging Theatre as a Means for Social Change
Moderator: Chuck Banaszewski, School of Theatre and Film

The series is sponsored by the city of Tempe Cultural Services office,
the Herberger College of Fine Arts and Friends of the Tempe Public
Library.
