SATURDAY'S COOKOUT PART OF McDOWELL SONORAN PRESERVE MONTH
This Saturday's Cookout at the Ranch fundraiser is just one of many events taking place in October as part of McDowell Sonoran Preserve Month.
The cookout fundraiser takes place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Old McDonald's Ranch, 26540 N. Scottsdale Road. For more information, visit http://www.scenicdrive.org
Here's a list of other events taking place to celebrate McDowell Sonoran Preserve Month:
** Oct. 16: Tour de Scottsdale Bike Race, http://www.active.com.

** Oct. 20 Mayor and City Council Breakfast featuring Dr. Art DeCabooter, Chairman, McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission, and other dignitaries. 7:30 to 9 a.m., Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St. For more information call (480) 312-2335.
** Scottsdale's popular Preserve Connections program returns this fall with six planned excursions into the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. For details, see item in the "Programs for You" section below.

CHOO, CHOO! . RAILFAIR ON TAP THIS WEEKEND AT RAILROAD PARK
Model trains, hand-dipped ice cream and children's laughter will be plentiful this weekend, Oct. 8-9, when Railfair chug-chug-chugs into Scottsdale's McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 E. Indian Bend Road.
Railfair will feature model train displays and exhibits, moon bounces, and other entertainment from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Free tours of the Roald Amundsen Pullman car, a former presidential car, will be available. In addition, many of the park's seldom seen railroad equipment will be on display. Admission to Railfair is free. Train and carousel rides are $1 each with children 3 and younger riding free with a paying adult. For more information, call (480) 312-2312.

CIVIC CENTER LIBRARY HOSTS TRICK OR TREAT EVENT THIS SATURDAY
Adults are in for a thrilling and chilling evening this Saturday, Oct. 8, when the Civic Center Library hosts a "Trick-Or-Tea."
This terrifying tea party will feature creepy crafts, ghoulishly good fun and a reading of Edgar Allan Poe works from 6 to 8 p.m. at the library, located at 3839 N. Drinkwater Blvd.
Participants are encouraged to wear a spooky hat for judging. Registration is required and can be made by calling (480) 312-6101.
