New City Hall exhibition features work by Mexican American artists
TEMPE, Ariz. - "Triumph of Our Communities: Mexican American Artists in
Arizona," an exhibition from the collections of the Hispanic Research Center
at Arizona State University and the Glenn Green Galleries (Scottsdale and
Santa Fe, N.M.), will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday (except during city holidays) from May 4 through Sept. 23 at the City
Hall Gallery, first floor, 31 E. Fifth St.
A free public reception for the artists is scheduled from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
on May 6 in the gallery.
The exhibition is part of the Arizona International Latina/o Arts Festival
and within its celebration of community artists and organizations. The
exhibition features recent work by 14 Arizona artists, including Tempe
residents Tlisza Jaurique and Marcus Zilliox. Works range from paintings and
sculptures to photography and other media.
Additional artists are Virginia Agüero, Manuel R. Burruel, Cristina
Cárdenas, Daniel Martín Díaz, Xochitl Gil, David Manje, Mónica Aíssa,
Martínez, Marttín Moreno, Eduardo Oropeza, Joe Ray, Larry Yáñez's and Frank
Ybarra.
The exhibition is presented by the city of Tempe's Cultural Services
